Inu-Yasha looked down at the motionless form lying on the bed. *She looks so pretty* he cursed himself for not having realised that before. *Now I will never have a chance to tell her* he thought bitterly. His mind drifted back to the fight.
And outside the streets are bare without a care
as if no-one dares to make a sound
I said well ain't that the way that you like it
Inu-Yasha swung the Tetsusaiga and Sessho-Maru easily dodged it. "Haha, just as I thought, little brother. You still don't know how to use it. What a waste, so just hand it over."
*I don't know how to use it? What the hell is he talking about?* he attacked the other again, this time Sessho-Maru disarmed him. *What?* he glanced at where his sword had landed. This brief distraction was all Sessho-Maru needed to slash his talons at Inu-Yasha. He hissed as his flesh burned at the touch, barely have time to see his brother attacking again. This time Sessho-Maru flicked him away like he was a little insect. Inu-Yasha landed heavily on his back, blood running freely from his wounds. He looked up helplessly as Sessho-Maru approached him again.
"Inu-Yasha!" Kagome cried, running out from her hiding place where he had absolutely forbidden her to move away from during the fight. She leapt on top of him, and screamed as Sessho-Maru's claws cut through her.
Well I know with all the plans we had it was gonna be hard to succeed
But harder than any of that is sitting here watching you bleed
Inu-Yasha had killed Sessho-Maru then and there. *If only I was able to master the Tetsusaiga before...*

*...I would have been able to save Kagome*

The tree just branches in the wind
He had carried her back to the village, then back to her home. He was the one who broke the news to her family. He knew they blamed HIM for what had happened, and he wasn't surprised. So did he.
And into an empty room my eyes they're open wide
So now he sat in Kagome's room, where he had placed her body. *She looks like she's asleep* He looked around the room and fingered her books scattered around her desk. From downstairs, he could still here the sobbing of her mother and brother.

It's one hell of a way to go out
His eyes caught sight of the Shikon jewel tied around her neck. Tears flooded to his eyes as it brought back all the times when they hunted for the shards. Now after all this time, their work was complete, the last shards Inu-Yasha had taken from his brother.
Well you know it's so quiet here
It's like a country town
Where all the drama's gone
it's left far behind and now there's only peace of mind
Inu-Yasha gently removed the jewel, and held it in his hand. To his shock, he realised he didn't want it anymore. Not like all those years ago, when he repeatedly tried to steal it from Kikyo. He swore he would go on protecting the jewel forever, *I'm not going to let Kagome die in vain* He took one last look at the girl he loved and jumped out of her room, ran to the shrine and travelled back to the village...
You never thought it was a crime
To be so sad and lonely

It's one hell of a way to go out
