Chapter 3

"Why isn't that stupid girl back yet? At the rate she's going, we'll never find all of the jewel shards."

"Lord Inu-Yasha, it's only been three days. She'll be back -"

"We've wasted those three days waiting for her. I'm tired of this. Let's go look for rumors of the jewel." He stomped off. Myoga sighed. Inu-Yasha always got a little cranky when the new moon came, but he was over doing it this time. I didn't realize that he missed her so much, he thought. He jumped on Shippo and they ran after Inu-Yasha.

"My lord Inu-Yasha," Myoga called. "Can't we wait just a little longer? Besides, tomorrow is the new -"

"I know! But that's why we can't wait for Kagome. Let's go." Shippo sighed.

"You and Myoga go ahead. I'm gonna wait here for Kagome." Inu-Yasha stopped in his tracks. He glared at Shippo.

"What did you say, fox?"

"I said, I'm gonna wait here for Kagome!" Inu-Yasha growled.

"Fine. We don't need you. Come, Myoga." The flea hung back with Shippo.

"My lord, I believe that it is wise to do as Shippo says, and -"

"Then stay for all I care. I'm leaving now." He stalked off. Myoga and Shippo looked at each other.

"Do you really think that he's gonna get far without us?" Shippo asked.

"My lord will go and then realize that he is better off with us," said Myoga. "But I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed out for a while." Shippo nodded.

"Why don't we go see what Kaede has for dinner?" he suggested.

".....so I'm the reincarnation of Kikiyo, and I need to help Inu-Yasha find the jewel shards," Kagome finished. She sat on Saia's bed. After dinner, they had gone downstairs and Kagome had told Saia about Inu-Yasha. She had been very interested, especially about Kagome being a reincarnation.

"What about you?" Kagome asked. "Are you really a reincarnation?" Saia paused.

"I don't know," she answered. "People have always asked me that, especially my mother. She was really excited about how strong I was. But she died before I could ask her more about my power." Kagome nodded.

"I suppose I could be," Saia continued. "Most people say that my power is unmatched. I don't know. I've never really tried to use it to its full extent."

"But it must be really awesome to have all of that power, though." Saia smiled.

"Sometimes it is," she said. "But I won't know for sure exactly how much power I have until I find a worthy cause to use it for."

"Huh?" said Kagome. "But I thought you were a priestess."

"I am," Saia replied. "Let me see how I can explain this. You were born to protect the Shikon Jewel, right?" Kagome nodded. "Well, that's why you have your mystic power. With my power, I could still be a priestess and have one fourth of my power. Do you understand?" Kagome shook her head. Saia sighed.

"What I mean is that I don't need all of my power, especially if I were a just a regular priestess in modern day Tokyo. I could still ward off evil spirits with one fourth of my power. But there must be a reason I have all of this power, and I need to find that reason."

"I thought you didn't know how much power you have."

"I don't, exactly," answered Saia. "But I know that I have some power, and I'd only need one fourth of it to be a good priestess."

"I think I understand now," said Kagome. "So you need to find the reason, huh?"

"Yes."

"Maybe Inu-Yasha would know," said Sota. The two glanced at him in surprise.

"How long have you been standing there?" asked Kagome.

"Shouldn't you be in bed by now?" added Saia. She glanced at the clock. "It's almost ten."

"Only a few minutes," answered Sota. He looked at Saia.

"Maybe Inu-Yasha would know," he said to her. "Maybe you need to go back in time to find the reason for your power."

"Oh, Sota - " began Kagome, but Saia pulled him into her lap and said to him,"Maybe I do. We'll talk about that later. I'll take you to your room and you go to sleep, okay?" Sota nodded.

"I'll take him up," said Kagome. "I need to go to sleep anyway, since I need to go back in time tomorrow. But we'll talk when I get back." Saia nodded, and Kagome took Sota to his room before retiring to her own. Her last thought before going to sleep was, I wonder if Inu-Yasha would know.
