“The biggest singer-songwriter
of all times...”
-Arno
Jaques Brel was a master at anything to do with the arts. He was a legendary poet, musician, performer, director, actor and singer.

D.O.B. Jacques was born on April 8 1929 in Shaarbeek in Brussels, Belgium.

HIS STORY: The first time Jacques tried singing was in 1953, when he recorded two songs, “La foire” and “Il y a”. The record was received well in Paris, so he decided to go there. He then spent four years singing in cabarets and musicals to earn some money. It was not until 1957 when the song “Quand on a que l’amour” made Jacques Brel noticed more universally for the first time.

HIS MUSIC: Jacque’s music is supposed to be about the message the words send, rather than the music itself. His songs include topics such as God, death, generosity and more. They are songs of real life, which also express his life in Bruxelles, as not to forget his true roots.

THE END OF JAQUE’S CAREER: Jacque’s last performance on the stage was at the musical “L’homme de la Mancha” in 1967. After this, in 1973 he moved to the Iles Marquises, but returned in 1977 to Paris to record another album. He died on October 9th 1978 of lung cancer.

Many people have interpreted his music including; Neil Diamond, Shirley Bassey, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, the list goes on.
