Canberra In Flames !!!

My parents awoke one morning to hear on the radio that the Canberra had been hit and was in flames. Neither went to work that day. Repeated calls to the home office and P&O were to no avail. They would neither confirm nor deny the reports.

A priest knocked on the door shortly afterwards and said that he had been sent to offer support. A nice sentiment but appalling timing. Of course this was just another piece of propaganda (the newspaper, not the priest) but the combined effect was to cause significant stress and worry.

Of course I found out about this whilst on the ship but communications were blacked out for the duration of the invasion and I was unable to tell them otherwise.
