Footnote :- On census night 1881 John Benjamin, his third wife or partner Frances Mary and his surviving children were all living together at 3 New Court. St Lukes. London. See attachment (A 003). Except for Sarah his first wife, who, for unknown reasons was an inmate at the Great Yarmouth Workhouse. See attachment (A 004a). His son John was also away, see the attachment on his page. Of all the branches of the tree this is the most interesting for John Benjamin appears to move around a fair bit aand two of his sons were the first Curnesses to emigrate. Maybe as a Cork Cutter he was an itinerant worker. He also appears to have had three wives, two of them at the same time but I can only find one marriage, that being to Sarah. I had thought that Susannah Maria and Fances Mary might be one and the same person until I perchased the certificate for John Benjamin junior and found that he had been born eleven days after Frances Alice and at a different address (see certificates). Susannah and Frances were in fact sisters who's parents were Alexander and Maria Tyler. Susannah had been married before, as her married name was Veal. It might be John Benjamin lent his name to the children of Susannah who at the time of their births was a widow. I also believe she married again in 1868 to a Charles Barrett or a John Martin. On census night 1901 Frances Mary and her two youngest children plus grandchild were living at 8. Hatfield Street. St Likes. London. See attachment (A 004b)
