"Stargate Sg-1" is based on the movie "Stargate".
The movie is centred on when Dr. Daniel Jackson is asked to
help on a special project by Catherine Langford -
The task?, to help "Decode" a great archaeological find,
that no one can seem to understand.
Once Daniel has decoded how to "work" the Stargate,
Catherine, with help from the Air Force - in the form of
Colonel Jack O'Neill - decide to send a team in to the
Stargate to see what lies 'In The Great Beyond.....'
Unbeknown to Dr. Jackson, is the 'extra' mission that Colonel O'Neill
has been given - If there are any hostile forces of any kind, blow up
the Gate so they can not come to Earth - Yet once the team has gone
through the Stargate, Daniel can not get them home again.....one of the
symbols (the most important symbol) is missing from the room where the
Stargate is located on the foreign planet.
This in turn makes the team to roam their surroundings and locate some
of the native people of the area. Dr.Jackson is interested when he finds
out that the people worship Ra - the Ancient Egyptian God for the sun,
and that the "native" people were transported years ago through the Gate
from Earth.
Once Ra realises that someone has come through the Stargate, he gets angry at the native people - As well, Jackson and O'Neill help the people begin an uprising agasint Ra - during this little confrontation Ra ends up dying and Dr. Jackson decides to stay on the planet called "Abydos", as he can not pass up the chance to live with Ancient Egyptian people.
The group also find out that, who the people call "Gods" are really human hosts with a "Goa'uld" inside them. O'Neill and the rest of his team return to Earth - without Dr.Jackson - and the Stargate Program is closed down.
