WEL POLICY PROPOSALS FOR NEW SOUTH WALESIn putting forward this set of policy proposals, WEL NSW is conscious that many women and girls in NSW still find themselves socially and economically disadvantaged. Despite more recent initiatives, the majority of women and girls still have a long way to go.
WEL NSW’s recommendations have resource implications. Our expectation is that additional staff and funds will be made available to departments and agencies to enable the implementation of our proposals. We also believe that improvement is less likely to occur without strengthened accountability and performance measurement. We therefore recommend that gender specific and gender sensitive data be collected, monitored and published in each department and agency, along with annual review and outlook reports including budget analysis undertaken jointly by the Office for Women and the Auditor General. Following further discussion with other women’s organisations, the policies outlined in this document may be supplemented over time.
