Chapter 7
"This is great," said Sota, as he settled on the couch in front of the television. "There's a DragonBall Z marathon on tonight."
"Your mom said you could watch it," said Saia. "Why don't you turn on the TV, and I'll make popcorn.
"Okay."
Saia went to the kitchen and got out a pot. She poured a little oil into it, and then added kernels. After placing a lid on the pot, she turned on the burner. As the kernels began to pop, Saia's thoughts drifted to Kagome. I hope she's alright, she thought. Saia remembered the chill she had felt in Kagome's room. On a whim, she glanced out the door to the minishrine, and gasped. Black smoke rose into the air and covered the yard like a blanket. Saia could barely see the place where the smoke came from, the well. The smoke was now beginning to tint with red. The smoke barely touched her hands, but made them as cold as ice anyway. Saia shut the door quickly, before any of it could get inside the house. Her hands shook. The smoke, she thought, it's a warning.....for me. The last time I saw it was on that night....the night my mother died. It means death.....a bloody death. Kagome....is she in danger?
"Saia?"
"ARGHH!!!!" she screamed. She spun around. It was only Sota.
"Oh, Sota, it's you."
"Uh....yeah. Are you okay?"
"Yes, yes, I'm, uh, fine. How are you?" He looked at her quizzically.
"Okay. The popcorn's done."
"Then let's go watch DBZ," she said brightly. Sota nodded.
"O...kay. Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yeah, I'm great. Let's go." Saia took the popcorn and some napkins, and followed Sota into the den. She remembered the smoke. She looked at Sota. I need to protect him, she thought.

"Let me outta here!" Inu-Yasha shouted. He rattled his chains, to no avail. Curse it, he thought. At this rate, I'll have to wait until morning to escape. He wasn't sure if he had that option.
"Shaddup, human," snarled the guard. He ran his whip over the bars of Inu-Yasha's cell. "If ya keep talkin', I be whippin' ya."
"Listen, you," said Inu-Yasha. "I'm Sessho-Maru's brother. I - "
"Yeah, right," the guard snorted. "How many times haf I heared thata one. Now shut yer mouth." He cracked his whip for emphasis, before moving on. Inu-Yasha sighed. Kagome, he thought, please be okay.

Sessho-Maru moved swiftly toward the village. He would enjoy tearing it to pieces, especially after he killed Inu-Yasha's human girl. It was incredible, he thought, that anyone could have affection for such wretched, weak creatures. His father, Inu-Yasha.....really amazing. he himself would never love a human ever again.....not after what had happened the last time. But then again, she was unlike any.....He sighed, and allowed himself a brief moment to remember what could have been....
His ears pricked up. He was nearing the village. Now he would destroy the place, and take the Tetsusaiga.
