Chapter 8
"It's really late," said Kagome. "Shouldn't Inu-Yasha be back by now?"
"Kagome-chan," said Myoga gently. "I told you - "
"I know, I know. But - "
"You don't have to worry," said Shippo. "He'll be okay."
"Yes," said Kaede. "And since he has not yet returned, we can assume that he has found somewhere safe to stay."
"My lord is not foolish enough to go too far off on his own," said Myoga. "Especially in his present condition." Kagome forced a smile.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. But...I dunno. I have this feeling...." Kaede looked at her sharply.
"What feeling?" she asked.
"Just that something's wrong with Inu-Yasha," Kagome answered.
"Maybe you're just worried about him," suggested Shippo.
"Yeah, I guess I am. It's just that - "
All of a sudden, a wall came crashing down. Shippo knocked Kagome out of the way just in time. Sessho-Maru strolled in. Behind him, homes were on fire, and women and children were screaming for help. He glanced around.
"Excuse me for interrupting your dinner," he said. "However....you, girl!" He glared at Kagome. "Where is the Tetsusaiga?"
"Why should I tell you?" she retorted. Sessho-Maru laughed.
"Human, are you not afraid of me?"
"No way." Kagome put her hands on her hips and glared at him. Sessho-maru grabbed her throat and shoved her against a wall.
"Tell me, girl, or you shall die."
"Never!" Kagome gasped out.
"I guess I'll - AUGHH!" he cried out in pain. Kagome dropped to the floor, wheezing. Shippo helped her up.
"Get out of here, Kagome!" Kaede shouted. She threw another glowball at Sessho-Maru. "Run!" Shippo grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the well. Kagome tried to stop.
I can't go! We need to help Kaede!" She tried to release his arm from Shippo's grasp, which for some reason was incredible strong.
"Kagome, go get your priestess," said Myoga, appearing out of nowhere. She can help us."
"We'll wait here," added Shippo. "But go quickly!" He pushed Kagome into the well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome quickly climbed out of the well. The first thing she saw was black and red smoke. It was deathly cold.
"Saia!" she shouted. "Saia, come quickly! We need - "
Someone roughly grabbed her arms and pulled her inside. It was Saia.
"Kagome? Oh, thank goodness. I thought you were in trouble."
"We are," Kagome gasped. "I need you to come back with me." Saia nodded.
"Wait here."
Kagome had gulped down a glass of water when Saia returned. Her wore a pair of dark grey baggy pants and a tight grey shirt. A mask covered the bottom part of he face and her birthmarks. Her hair had been plaited into a braid and she had a large pack on her back.
"Sota's sleeping," she told Kagome. "I made sure he'll be safe. Now let's go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Die, human!" shouted Sessho-Maru. Kaede threw another glowball at him, but he easily knocked it away. he grinned in triumph.
"Ah, you are weakening. Now I will - "
"Not so fast!" Shippo jumped up and bit Sessho-Maru's shoulder. He growled and threw Shippo across the room, into the only wall that remained standing. But that too crumbled.
"Stupid fox! I will deal with you later, after I AHHH!" He jumped away, but not before two fans appeared out of the air and sliced him up quite nicely.
"What?" he gasped.
