Praxis are an Australian early music ensemble performing lively interpretations of music gathered from the four corners of the Medieval World and spanning the Ages. Our repertoire includes: Nordic folk dances, Songs of Pilgrims and Crusaders, Folk music of the Near East, Trouvere music of Feudal Europe and Dance tunes of 15th C Italy & 17th C England. Praxis play a diverse array of instruments including Oudh (arabic lute), Rebec, Cello, Saz, Theobor, Jewsharps, and Wind instruments such as Medieval & Renaissance Recorders, Chalumeau, Shawm, Bone Flute, Gemshorn and a variety of Medieval & Renaissance Drums and Percussion. With a keen involvement in Historical Re-enactment, Praxis performances are historically informed & presented in accurate costumes appropriate to the Age: from the Vikings through the Middle Ages & the Age of Discovery to the English Renaissance.  We are always happy to explain what we know about the music and instruments we play (some we also make), so don’t hesitate to ask!
