The two principle members of PRAXIS are Benjamin Evison and Stephen Gapps;

Benjamin Evison
plays various medieval wind instruments with a particular passion for Viking and Eastern music, playing such uncommon instruments as the Gemshorn, Chalumeau and the loud and raucous Shawm. A passionate re-enactor of the dark ages period of history, he is also Australia’s leading exponent of the Jew's Harp. Benjamin also makes  authentic instruments.

Stephen Gapps
is a professional Historian with an interest in early music – particularly the reconstruction of early European folk or 'peasant' music and music from the so-called 'Dark Ages'. Stephen has an interest in the history of drums in a period where they were widely thought to be the 'devil’s music' and plays a variety of percussion instruments as well as eastern strings and the medieval Lute.

Like the music we play, members of PRAXIS come from far and wide.
Other guest performers or members struck by the tyranny of distance are:

Robert Ely
is one of Australia's leading Medieval and Renaissance music practitioners with a vast experience playing with Medieval music groups in Melbourne and in the UK. Robert plays an array of early wind instruments and belts out some enchanting vocals.

Igor Marjanovic
is a re-enactor with a passion for 'Dark Age' rhythms (as well as being one of Australia’s most respected Medieval Armourers). He has an interest in Eastern music and plays an array of percussion instruments as well as Arabic Lute, theobore & saaz.

Vanessa Burns
has a strong interest in world music, having studied classical Western and Indian music.
She plays early wind and string instruments in PRAXIS, focusing on the Rebec or 'Medieval fiddle'.

Graham Brissett
is a long-term historical re-enactor who grew up on Pipe Bands but now belts out Ancient rhythms with PRAXIS.

Nigel Castle
is a widely experienced musician with a particular interest in early Medieval music.
He plays a range of string, wind and percussion instruments – specialising in the Hurdy-Gurdy.
