Ah, Spring in the country
…. the season of dry brown grass, hatching flies, hay fever and the smell of  newly mown sheep.  It makes you want to go someplace else.  So we did – we took a little trip to
Canberra and spent six days hitting the high spots in the city.

We encountered many interesting people on this trip, including a crazy Australian taxi driver and a nice Chinese one, two lovable bus/tourism advisors, a miserable Punjabi waitress in an Indian restaurant were they couldn’t cook, four adorable children who kept us up half the night and one who nearly fell off a roof, a group of haughty teenage females in a CSIRO facility, who looked at us old guys with contempt, and an emu.

Then there was the Parliament House Security Guard who advised us on the best way to blow up the building (no, that was on our last trip – he’s been fired), several twelve year old experts on places of interest, some boisterous young police recruits, an angry bus driver who specialised in ignoring requests for help, bouncing over kerbs, taking old ladies past their requested bus stops and racing with bicycle riders … and many more

And besides all that, we saw some amazing flowers, artwork, museums and national monuments, and even learned a thing or two.

Sounds like a pretty good holiday, huh?
