Have some art!
Art and cultural activities are important components of the Heritage River project. The synthesis of nature, Aboriginal and European history, and art, help to re-define our lost connection with the Parramatta River and our early reliance on nature. Gaining a feeling and understanding of the local plant and animal species and ecological functions of nature is within reach for all to understand, feel and enjoy when rediscovering the landscape and stories of our first Heritage River.
In 2000 activities like the Eat Street and Bread Fesival have helped unify the history of the Toongabbie-district and Parramatta City. These events lead up to Federation 2001 and provide thematic and community cohesion. They also compliment Parramatta's Heritage/Tourism/Marketing Strategies, developing a celebratory backdrop with cultural substance.
Some of the other events have included:
-
Breakfast (Aust. Day Brekky, Heritage Week, eg '1 April 1791 Toongabbie
Foundation');
-
Lunch (Feast of Sydney "Eat Streets" (Parramatta etc); and
-
Tea eg. (Heritage River Phoenix Fire-Art and Toongabbie Gala, Olympic
Landcare/Torch, Loy-Krathong Thai and Joseph Holt 1800 Tour Events); and
-
other federation era specific dates and occasions.
