12 August 2000 - Planting Day at Parramatta Park
The planting day at Parramatta Park beside the River (Sat 12 August
10am-3pm) is to be accompanied by the beating of both Drums and Gold
Name Plates (as artwork onto a dead tree).
Percussionists and drummers are welcome to join in the lunchtime jam
session overlooking Parramatta's last river island near George Street Gatehouse,
with a gourmet sausage sizzle. Paper-bark trees are to start restoring
the endangered river-flat forest habitat there.
Parramatta's residents are encouraged to Beat the destructive forces
of environmental degradation in our river's catchment with creative bushcare
and concern. An exciting personal best performance is out there for all
who join the team.
Between 4pm and 6pm you can plant original Kangaroo Grass seed and then help germinate these by using fire on the Park's
ridgetop with traditional Darug Elders. Kangaroo grassland is now almost extinct in Parramatta - help restore a small part of
Parramatta's rare Cumberland Plain Woodland.
Meet on the Ridgetop at the Park. Cost of Special seed and bush tucker BBQ dinner: $5 (Bookings required for Bush-Tucker BBQ dinner). Contact Simon on 02 9624 5659.
