Welcome to the Heritage River of Australia
Welcome to the Heritage River Project. The
Parramatta River
is the Heritage River of Australia. On the banks of this river, we can explore
the site of the original Aboriginal peoples. The name 'Parramatta' is derived
from the Aboriginal word used to describe: "where the eels meet".
Parramatta is a city located on the Parramatta River, west of Sydney. The
history of European settlement of this River, as well as the original
Aboriginal habitation, has now been largely forgotten.
The Heritage River Project seeks to re-discover these connections and place new
value on the river.
